Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often does the Young Guns team practice?

A: We have approximately 11 scheduled practices per year. Young Guns are required to attend 6 scheduled practices. We have two scheduled team practices per month on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Q: What is the difference between the Recreational Team and the Competition Team?

A: The Recreational Team:

 

The Recreational Team is for members interested in learning shotgun safety as well as becoming proficient in sporting clays. Members of this team will attend monthly scheduled practices with coaching provided by our certified coaches. Members will receive 4 boxes of ammunition per practice as well as the targets during practices. The members of this team will also be required to participate in the annual fundraiser. Members of the recreational team can move to the competition team by the first January meeting. If a member decides to move to the competition team, the member will be required to pay the fee difference. The State Shoot is not required for recreational team members, but is highly recommended. 

The cost which is subject to change each year is $625 not including travel and lodging expenses. Costs will be reevaluated at the beginning of every year. 

 

Additional costs of travel and lodging are not included but are partially reimbursed based upon that year’s fundraising. 

 

The Competition Team:

 

The Competition Team is for members interested in participation in clay shooting competition and representing the Young Guns team at various competitions such as the State Shoot, Regionals, and Nationals. Members of this team will be required to participate in 4 scored shoots to take place on selected dates plus the State Shoot. All scored shoots will take place during designated NSCA sanctioned tournaments. The scored shoots will take place at Quail Creek. Members will receive 4 boxes of ammunition and up to 100 targets per practice plus entry fees to sanctioned competitions they participate in as part of the team. We give an allowance of $250 towards entry fees and ammo for the Nationals. 

 

Any Young Gun member returning or new will be eligible for the competition team. 

 

All Young Guns members will have to select a recreational or competition team by the time they submit their paperwork and payment by the first meeting. Members of the recreational team can if they wish move to the competition team by the first January meeting.

A: For Sporting Clays, Skeet, and Trap an over under or semi automatic shotgun in 12, 20, or 28 gauge is needed as well as eye protection (shooting glasses) and ear protection.

Members will receive 4 boxes of ammunition and up to 100 targets per practice plus entry fees to sanctioned competitions they participate in as part of the team.
